That spoof commercial is quite a bit unfair. Sonic did kind of lose it as time went by, but I don’t think that was predestined. The series did improve a bit with Sonic Adventure 2, and the Dreamcast itself was actually a very advanced console, pioneering many modern traditions like Internet functionality.
