Just considering that it is american made and they are mentioned in a lot of country songs. Is it the car that a redneck buys when enough money comes in?

They buy pick-up trucks, Chevy’s and Fords. Maybe a Caddy if it’s a 1970-1990 with 200,000 miles. Never saw a gun rack in the rear window of a Caddy.

Good lord no. The Cadillac is a cliche of 1970s black success, made famous by Ronald Reagan’s racism. White rednecks neither drive nor admire Cadillacs, except the pink ones that the makeup lady gives out.

I guess you’ve never heard of the Escalade!

I don’t think so. Most of the songs that mention them are satirical. Most of the successful rednecks I know drive pick up trucks – not just any ole truck but the shiny new ones with the extended cabs and all the extras! That’s when you know that good ole boy has arrived!

Maybe you get the impression cause Elvis did love his Cadillac and so did Johny Cash, but times have changed…
