Nope. Not even close. The term “redneck” originated in Scotland. It began as a slur against Presbyterians. Most of the Scots and Scotch-Irish who came to the New World in the 18th century were Presbyterians and the term followed them.

It’s not where we live or where we work that makes us who we are. It’s in out heart’s. I live in Oregon and I know that I share the same values and pride with “country folk” in Ohio or Florida….just my thoughts.

redneck is a term that refers to a person who is stereotypically Caucasian and of lower social-economic status in the United States, particularly referring to those living in rural areas. So now your next question is how can a redneck be proud of this, right? :)

  20. pikkdogs says:

Its a slang term for a person who comes from the country. The sterotype of a person from the country is a farmer. And a farmer sometimes wears a longsleeve shirt and overalls. So the only thng exposed to the sun when they are bending down to plant seed and stuff like that is their necks. Hence the term red neck.
