Why is it acceptable to use terms like redneck and white trash but not the “n word”?

i dont understand why. I thought they were equally offensive. You can ask a question on this site using redneck, white trash and hillbilly without anyone complaining at all,,, but if you say nlgger, your account is immediately suspended and you could have death threats!

Because it’s OK to be mean to white people, especially white males.

I think that all of those terms are offensive but I guess that there is more consensus in society about the offensiveness of the n word.

They would been acceptable if the people the word is referring to is at the same level as the people who are using the word.

It is a case of discrimination, really. by the way, there is no such thing as ‘reverse discrimination”, discrimination is discrimination and can flow either way.
The term redneck, as you probably know, used to simply mean farmer or someone that worked the land for a living. Since farmers were usually not knowledgeable in how things were in the city, they were thought of as ‘hicks’ and redneck became synonymous with that. They were ‘redneck’ because their necks were usually sunburned, being the only part of their bodies not covered by clothing while they worked out in the sun.
Personally, I am proud of my ‘hillbilly’ and ’swampbilly’ roots. The only thing I really cannot stand is what is referred to in my area as ‘whigger’, which is the suburban white that has adopted the black inner city culture as his own and doesn’t realize how stupid it makes him look and sound. Even the inner city blacks that have made something of themselves have said that the gangster and jail fashion and culture that is being adopted by many of the urban youth is a major factor in keeping the youths as a whole from making anything of themselves, even to denigrating anyone that does try and get ahead in school and work.
